Ultra-Shear Raised Land Mortise and Tenon Router Bits - Solid Carbide - 2 Flute
American Made Quality at Factory Direct Pricing
Without getting too deep in the weeds, the "land" of a router bit is the thick part that isn't the flute. The "margin" is the leading edge of the land…the part that does the cutting. On a traditional spiral bit, the cutting edge is the only part that touches the sidewall of the cut. The edge is formed by grinding away part of the land to create primary and secondary bevels, leaving only the exact cutting edge at the stated diameter of the tool. On our Raised Land bits, the land clearance is ground into the carbide blank with a skinny strip of the original tool blank's curve left intact. That curved margin rides on the wall, maintaining dimensional accuracy and minimizing chatter.
I can hear a bunch of you right now saying, "Part of the bit is rubbing on the wall of the cut? Isn't that going to burn?" You would think so. That's why we torture tested these bits over and over. For reasons we have yet to completely understand, they don't.
The European mortising bit we tested while developing these bits had sort of a drill bit shape ground into the tip. We skipped that and gave the end a square shoulder, making these bits ideal for cutting tenons, as well as mortises. We make them in 3 diameters, with multiple cut length options in each diameter. The 1/2" diameter comes in cut lengths of 1", 1-1/4", 1-3/4" and 2-1/4". The 1/4" and 3/8" diameters have cut lengths of 7/8", 1-1/8" and 1-3/8". You'll need a 3/8" collet for your router or a 3/8" x 1/2" collet adapter (available individually and included in the 3/8" set) to use the 3/8" bits.
Don’t settle for inferior quality imported bits. Ultra-Shear uses state-of-the-art CNC grinding equipment, the highest quality carbide, ultra-fine grinding wheels and skilled Northeast Ohio machinists to produce American-made router bits at extremely competitive prices. The days of paying extra for middleman markups are over. Buy direct from the manufacturer and pocket the savings. We’re confident you won’t find American-made Raised Land Mortising Bits of the same design for less. If you're using a Multi-Router, PantoRouter, hand-held router or router table to machine mortise and tenon joints, there's no better choice.
