Ultra-Shear borrowed a technique from metal-cutting tool companies to merge solid carbide spiral cutting efficiency with steel shank economy. Our "Carbide Head" bits have a solid carbide blank brazed to a steel shank. After the head is brazed on, the 3-flute slow-spiral cutting pattern is ground to shape, just like our solid carbide spirals. But we don't have to tie up the machines with turning down the shank, and less machine time means lower prices for you. The result is spiral cutting performance at prices that compete with carbide tipped bits.

In typical use with a sled, you don't need a guide bearing. But we've included one because the size and construction of this bit works great for cleaning up the bottom of dadoes or extending holes that have been drilled by a Forstner bit. The bearing and collar should not interfere with anything, but if they do, they can be removed (or replaced) in seconds.
