Ultra-Shear's NEW Deep Finger Grip Groove Bit cuts a deeper finger grip than most bits on the market and has a parabolic shape that fits fingers naturally. Depth of cut is controlled by a bearing, so you can cut a deep finger grip in curved boards as well as square-ended boards. It comes with 2 bearing sizes to give you a choice of depths. The larger bearing can also be used to cut the deeper groove in 2 passes when working with dense woods or tricky grain patterns.

The pair of small bearings gives you a depth of 3/8" with a cutting height of 11/16". For straight-edged boards, you can set the fence in line with the bearing and use stops. For curved ends just mark target points to begin and end the cut as shown above.

The larger bearing creates a subtler groove with a depth of 3/16" and a height of 9/16". As mentioned above, if you're working in dense woods like white oak, mesquite or exotics, use the large bearing to make a cut, then switch to the smaller bearings for the final cut. It's the same idea as cutting dadoes and grooves in 2 or 3 passes, instead of one…less stress on your router and less stress on you.
