Generously Sized Tropical Billets Featuring Bold, Koa-Like Grain Figures
Crafted from Enterolobium cyclocarpum, our Earpod Wood Billets (also known as Elephant Ear Wood) offer a lightweight yet strikingly rich tropical hardwood alternative to Hawaiian Koa. Each billet is guaranteed to meet minimum dimensions of 1.875" thick (most are 2"+), 6" wide, and 18" long. Featuring deep golden-brown hues and sweeping, expressive grain patterns, these robust wood blanks are lighter in density than monkeypod, making them ideal for custom turning, deep carving, resin river projects, and decorative furniture accents.
Discover the dramatic beauty and versatile workability of our Earpod Wood Billets. Sourced from the tropical Enterolobium cyclocarpum tree—commonly called Elephant Ear wood for its distinct seed pod shape—this species is celebrated among woodworkers for its resemblance to Hawaiian Koa at a fraction of the weight and density.
Each billet in our stock is cut to substantial dimensions: a minimum thickness of 1.875" (with most pieces measuring 2" or thicker), a minimum width of 6", and a minimum length of 18". This generous sizing provides ample material for resawing for boxes and other small projects or integrating into custom resin woodworking projects.
Despite its bold visual presence and deep, fiery grain figures, Earpod wood is noticeably lighter than other tropical hardwoods like monkeypod. This favorable strength-to-weight ratio makes it easy to shape and manage without sacrificing structural integrity. The rich, golden-to-reddish-brown heartwood displays strong grain contrast that reacts beautifully to clear oils, waxes, and clear coats.
