Framing carpenters have carried a lipped square with 90° and 45° angles in their tool belts since the 1920s. Nothing could be faster to strike a square or 45° line across 2x4s and 2x6s. Furniture and cabinetmakers have tried to adapt the same tool to their work, but many have found the widely available models lacking the precision and features they demand. Woodpeckers OneTIME Tool, the 6SS-2.0 Stainless Steel Carpenter’s Square, takes the fundamental features of the standard carpenter’s square and elevates the design to meet the expectations of demanding woodworkers. 

Woodpeckers Stainless Steel Carpenter’s Square starts with a triangular body, machined along the edges to a tolerance of ±.0085°. After machining, the body is bead-blasted to produce a lustrous, non-glare satin finish. Then we laser-engrave scales along the square edge to a tolerance of ±.002" total accumulated error over the length of the blade (in your choice of sixteenth-inch or one-millimeter graduations). Along the hypotenuse you’ll find a one-degree angle scale crisply laser-engraved to tolerances equal to the linear scale.

To create the large, stable reference edge that defines this style of square, we add cheeks milled from aircraft-grade aluminum and anodized for wear resistance and surface protection. The cheeks are located on the body with close-tolerance alignment pins and fastened with stainless-steel hardware. To reduce weight, through-holes are milled into both the cheeks and the body. These cutouts give you a comfortable place to grip the tool and enhance the overall appearance, too.
