The \"margin\" is the leading edge of the land…the part that does the cutting. On a traditional spiral bit, the cutting edge is the only part that touches the sidewall of the cut. The edge is formed by grinding away part of the land to create primary and secondary bevels, leaving only the exact cutting edge at the stated diameter of the tool. On our Raised Land bits, the land clearance is ground into the carbide blank with a skinny strip of the original tool blank's curve left intact. We skipped that and gave the end a square shoulder, making these bits ideal for cutting tenons, as well as mortises. We make them in 3 diameters, with multiple cut length options in each diameter. The 1\/2\" diameter comes in cut lengths of 1\", 1-1\/4\", 1-3\/4\" and 2-1\/4\". The 1\/4\" and 3\/8\" diameters have cut lengths of 7\/8\", 1-1\/8\" and 1-3\/8\".
